easyCGI has been in business for several years. With a top-of-the-line data center and customer support office, Host Excellence has continuously improved its performance and outlook. While recently re-launcing their web site with more aggressive hosting plans and prices, easyCGI has really started putting the heat on the competition. Their very large and generous selection of hosting plans, coupled with superb customer service and network reliability, have resulted in extremely quick loading websites and high customer satisfaction. During our review, we had very few complaints and many great observations and feel obligated to rank easyCGI great on our blog page.

Price & Cost Effectiveness
If you're looking for great deals on web hosting services, look no further. Being a very customer-oriented business, easyCGI has a large selection of services and payment options. When combined to fit your specific demands, they provide the most bang for your buck. Savings start the moment you sign up. With options to pay in advance, setup fees are waived and free months can be tacked on for no additional charge!

Reliability
During our extensive hosting experience with easyCGI, we have had hardly any server outages. It would be a lie to say they have never been down - everyone of the hosting companies we reviewed have had downtime, on occasion. The question is not IF downtime happens, the question is when it happens - and on that occasion, it is very important to have a hosting company that is capable to quickly resolve any ongoing issues, so your site is back online in no time.

Data Center (toured)
As the title indicates, we have personally visited and "examined" easyCGI's data center. The importance of doing that is obvious. You might have heard of the story that 90% or more of the web hosts are just resellers, and another 9% are just co-locating in some other data center, without direct physical access to the machines. That's not a story, that's plain reality.

This is why we have personally verified that easyCGI's data center facility actually exists by paying them a visit at their facility. You can find the data center's address on their website.
easyCGI currently has two redundant (SONET) fiber-optic connections. They have built their own fiber-optic loop, which means that they do not depend on any telephone companies for the last mile, or the local loop. This automatically gives them a higher reliability than any other "rented loop" hosting company, or co-location facility.

easyCGI has multiple DS3 and OC3 connections to various Tier1 network providers such as MCI, Qwest and ATT. The connections are delivered by Bell South and KDL over two separate fiber-optic loops. At the time we visited their facility, they were busy getting a new OC-3 line (155mbit / s) from ATT for their future expansion.

Customer Service
The support they provide can be rated as excellent, especially their LIVE CHAT feature. What's nice about their support is that you have 24 / 7 support via an online ticketing system as well as real 24 / 7 live chat tech support and sales service. While we only encountered a few small problems, their support staff was quick to provide us with answers and make any necessary adjustments. We commend them for their prompt and reliable support!

Control Panel
easyCGI has developed a unique control panel for their hosting sites. Frankly, their control panel software is one of the best available in the market.

Through testing, the control panel has been very fast and very reliable. It is very user-friendly and easy to operate. Included is an extensive customer guide which can quickly guide even the most reluctant novice.

At first, we were skeptical with iPowerWeb's generous offers at such prices, their responsiveness in terms of customer support and many other things. We first reviewed iPowerWeb's service last year. At that time we stopped evalutating it pretty soon again due to a few advertised features that have not in any way met our expectations. After keeping a close eye on them until now, noticing their tremendous growth not only in size but also in quality we decided that they have advanced considerably, which enabled them to rank as the 4nd best web host.

Price & Cost Effectiveness
In terms of pricing and getting what you paid for they are pretty good compared to many others. Their one price, one package policy makes it easy for people who are new to webhosting. We have yet to check out how easy it is to upgrade and add features to your current account. iPowerWeb got completely reloaded with more space and more features, also including free domain name privacy. You get now $30 credit towards Google AdWords and FREE $50 Yahoo! Search Marketing Credit. iPowerWeb offers domains to their customers at our wholesale price - just $6.50 a year! These prices apply for every extension we offer -- from .com to .us. Every iPowerWeb domain name registration comes with many free bonuses, such as a FREE domain parking page, FREE email forwarding, and FREE WHOIS Privacy for your domain name.

Data Center (toured)
iPowerWeb is colocating their servers with AT&T Global. To date, we have not toured their data center so we cannot say for sure if everything that they promise is actually true. AT&T Global's data centers are protected from intrusion and failure by multi-layered security, full redundancy, diversity, and rapid response recovery measures. Their center has 2N (dual, fully redundant) Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems. They ensure no single point of failure throughout the backup power system.iPowerWeb rates best when it comes to connectivity and speed. They recently formalized a partnership with AT&T to be their new upstream provider. Their Data Center is now integrated with the highest performing OC48/OC192 IP backbone available. If you are looking for Speed, this might be the right place for you, however, you should not forget to take the other points into consideration as well.

Customer Service
In terms of customer service our experience with iPowerWeb was not bad, however, not too good either. Their team can be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you need immediate assistance, however, it is probably not fast enough to have an email answered after 24 hours. The person on the phone line was friendly, however, not much of a help when we were pretending to experience a technical issue with our hosting account with them. That was probably just a one-time bad experience because when we checked it out another few times, we did get a very good and helpful response even via phone.

This is relatively long considering that most web hosting companies are overnight operations and in reality you need a company that will always be around. Lunarpages has earned a reputation as a provider with superior customer support and a solid web hosting data center. Unlike most web hosting companies, you can always get through the phone line with Lunarpages. Also, the $6.95 monthly plan offers everything you need in order to make the presence of your business successful on the web.

Price & Cost Effectiveness - Category Rating 79%
Lunarpages offers decent pricing on their web-hosting plans. For a mere $6.95 a month, you receive 350,000 MB space and 3,500 GB bandwidth They also offer a $21.95 web-hosting package, which has double the amount of features. But for most users, the $6.95 is sufficient enough. In addition, you also get unlimited toll free support with all web hosting plans, which is not so common among web hosting companies. They currently use state of the art net infrastructure equipment and plan to offer many new features in the future such as load balancing. Furthermore, they are connected to premium Tier-1 Backbone providers and are multi-home with Level3, Genuity and Cable and Wireless. As a result, you will get above average web hosting performance and reliability that other providers normally charge a premium for.

Customer Service - Category Rating 87%
Customer support at Lycos is superior and they are very responsive to your questions. Even e-mail support questions always get answered in a timely manner. This is very different from any other web hosting company out there. Accounts are usually setup the same day after they verify the order with you over the phone within thirty minutes to one hour. It is essential that a working phone number be inputted into the system in order for your account to be setup immediately.

Control Panel - Category Rating 85%
Lycos currently utilizes the latest version of the CPanel 9.1 control panel. The features are pretty much the same to other CPanel, such as mailbox modification, password changes, ftp login modifications, statistical information, and so on. CPanel doesn't offer any web-building tool, but for web hosting administration it offers the user an easy and intuitive interface along with powerfully packed features.

They grew from one server to hundreds of servers in their private cage at Equinix Chicago. Their staff grew from two to over 30 in two offices.

The idea of building a datacenter was considered, but it was later decided to leverage the investment made in an existing datacenter. In December of 2003, midPhase signed a lease with Equinix Datacenter of Chicago. The company began offering one package, which orginally included only 600MB of disk space. In its first six months, the company had grown to over a thousand customers.

The fiber-optic connectivity is provided by Bell South,AT&T, Verizon and 2x bandwidth is redundantly served by Qwest Communications. They are currently busy upgrading their connectivity for future expansion.

In my entire career as professional web master, I have never seen more responsive and technically sound support staff. I am thoroughly impressed by the technical skills of the IX Web Hosting customer care team.

Regardless of which artificially created problem I have prompted them with, everything was resolved within 24 hours: PASIV FTP issues, CGI scripts with programming errors, PHP coding issues, ASP ODBC database connectivity, MSSQL Enterprise Manager troubles, domain-lock and expiration tricks - we were not able to fool them.

The support provided can be rated as above excellent, especially the 24 / 7 LIVE CHAT feature. We have submitted a total of 450 support requests so far in the past several months, and on 400 requests the response has immediately solved our problem. The other tickets had to be reworked to send more details to the technician. We called in via Live Chat at 3am and 5am EST several times and our requests were answered promptly and courteously. Unlike other hosts, IX Web Hosting is providing It is a true 24 / 7 chat service.

The basis of their control panel is H-Sphere, however IX Web Hosting's programmer staff have modified it heavily. My experience with Flux Services has been excellent! The control panel is very usable and easy to navigate. They offer 3 different choices of email software. Flux offers a number of services, including automatic Post Nuke installation, as well as e-commerce, blog and bulletin board set-up via Fantastico. But most of all, their support team is VERY accessible. When I needed the help, they manually transferred two different CMS-based sites over for me. They've readily answered all my questions.
